Are these Cardinals you ask? Yes they are! They look a little different then the usual full red Cardinal..They are called Brazilian Cardinals..aren't they pretty? I don't know if they are in any of the mainland states...I'd never seen them in California before..but we have them all over here. I just love the bright flash of red against thier white feathered breast.
Oh..hello!
And these..I don't know what they are. Some kind of seed pod..but what? I've never seen them before. A few days later we found a couple more in our yard. Some new plant near us because we've lived in this house for 5 years and have never had these strange visitors.
Anyone know what they are?

Great photos of the cardinal! I've never seen a Brazilian Cardinal in Illinois! :) It looks just like the full red ones we have here, other than the coloring of course. What an interesting seed pod; wish I could help you, but we don't have those in Illinois, either! :)
What beautiful birds! I love cardinals! Not sure about the seeds....it looks like it could almost be the fluff from a milkweed pod...
I've never seen a Brazilian Cardinal...how absolutely beautiful...didn't know they existed...as for the seed pod...looks like an upside down dandelion...ha...never seen that one! You should go to www.birdsandblooms.com and see if they can tell you...also show them your pics...maybe they will put them in one of their issues...it's a great magazine...photography is out of this world...thank you for sharing yours!

Great pics. That plant thing looks very alien-like.
Glad you guys are enjoying the birdy pics..they are so cute!
I'm wondering if you are right about the milkweed..I have no idea what they look like so I will look that up. A neighbor told me we have milkweed here and that our manarch catipillars cocoon on them. They had a bunch of them in thier house for the kids..not even in jars..just let the butterflies hatch in the house and then help them out once they do. Kinda cool!
amazing pictures! I love Cardinals. I get them here during spring and it's fun watching them. Those flowers looked like cotton balls or a flower of a cotton tree.
Happy Thanksgiving!
