Beach Bride Necklace..

Those who keep up with my blog know I've been busy taking care of my son who was just diagnosed with Gastroparesis. I've not much time to create new jewelry pieces..but have been working it into my schedule again little by little. This piece was made right before we found out. It's the diet that he has to be on that is very time consuming..and different with each patient..so it's a lot of trial and error (and boy does momma feel bad when she feeds her boy something that makes him feel yucky) ..but as we learn things that work for him..I'm able to get a little more time in. I posted this necklace to the shop a few days ago..it's available here: Baby Freshwater Coin Pearl - Beach Wedding Necklace

I'm hoping to pull out some beads to make bracelets tonight and bring them out to the dinning room table where I can see the TV and then I can still spend some time with Cameron. I am so very grateful that I work at home and can be here for him. And I'm grateful for the orders that have still come through. I wish I could hug everyone of my customers..they have made paying for Camerons tests, meds and special diet so much easier. Thank you!! ((HUUUGSSS)) to you all!

Not Afraid of Squidoo Anymore!

I've been afraid of Squidoo for some time. Only having glanced at it when I read that it was one of the sites I 'needed' to join..I was overwhelmed and so put it off for probably a year. I don't know why I was such a scaredy-cat...it's so much fun!

I know I've only scratched the surface of what you can do there..but here is a snapshot of my first 'lens'. I created one on Beach Wedding Jewelry...of course!

and here is the link:

http://www.squidoo.com/beachweddingjewelry

Please visit my lens, rate it and leave a comment at the end :D

The definition of lense from Squidoo's faq page is this:

"A lens is one person's view on a topic that matters to her. It's an easy-to-build, single web page that can point to blogs, favorite links, RSS feeds, Flickr photos, Google maps, your eBay auctions, CafePress designs, Amazon books or music, and oh so much more. That way, when someone is looking for recommended information, fast, your lens gets him started and sends him off in the right direction."

It looks like a really fun place to surf around as well..so I'm sure I will be spending some time there as I make myself comfy and try to learn.

Picnic Upcountry Maui

On Saturday my mom was watching my nephews while my sis at Aihara Visuals had a wedding photoshoot..so we decided to take the boys up for a picnic near the Lavender Farm here in upcountry Maui.

We sat out in a huge feild of grass and wild flowers...bee's and yes dried cow patties lol! Not too bad..you just had to watch out. It was really an amazing place to enjoy lunch..

The view was something else..as you sit up there you feel like you are on top of the world. It's still been hazy though from the volcanic action on the Big Island..so my pictures aren't that great...

cows...hence the cow patties..I do see a fence there though..maybe some are escape artists ;-)

The road through here up to Haleakala National Park is super windy..back and forth, back and forth...as you can see here onGoogle Maps The blue pinned spot is where the Lavender Farm is..we had our picnic in the middle of the second curvy spot up.

it woudl be so much fun on a motorcycle..we saw a few enjoying the ride

Finally we are gonna have some bananas!

Our neighbors banana trees sent a little keiki (child) plant through the fence and it's been there for years...we never seem to get bananas..but just the other day I noticed a huge banana flower..they are so cool. I hear you can boil them and make a purple dye out of it. I will have to try it...need to figure out what I want to dye though...lol

Champagne Sands - Beach Bride Necklace and Earrings

These are the cutest little coin pearls...usually coin pearls are at least 10mm but often 12mm. These are about 8.5mm I've never come across such small ones. And the color is called sand..but they are so shimmery they need to sound more fancy then just sand..so I named them champagne sand :)

I've put them with golden shadow Swarovski crystals and some semi round pearls called light champagne. They are all hand knotted on tan silk cord. The front pendants are hand wire wrapped with gold filled wire. More information and more pictures can be found here at Jonara Blu Maui

And of course we need some matching earrings

These are available for purchase here at Jonara Blu Maui

I've been published at AisleDash!

I'm so excited..I've been published for my very first time at a wonderful wedding themed e-zine called AisleDash

This wedding blog has so many fun articles posted each day from all sorts of tips to celebrity wedding gossip to interesting finds like superhero cuff links (I need some of those..I love superheros :)) It really makes for some fun reading for anyone, not only brides to be.

AisleDash writes different articles each day as you would see in a regular blog. You can have fun just reading what neat finds they've made each day, or you can click on catagories and suddenly you have a whole bunch of wonderful articles and pictures in that catagory to choose from. They also have a clickable image on the right side of a womans hand holding a manilla envelope and on it, it says "The Organized Bride - tips and tricks for the big day" and then once you click on that, there are catagories of tips and tricks to help you out like beauty and fashion, favors, DIY, the ceremony...etc.

Here is the article they posted about my jewelry with links back to both my shop and my blog:

They made a gallery of a whole bunch of my wedding themed jewelry even....it looks like they have galleries for everyone they write articles for. Thats so nice of them!

Wedding Waterfall and day at the beach....

I'm so excited...I finally found some really nice off-white/cream colored pearls. I guess you would call it a true antique ivory color. Not the whites that are called ivory or cream..but they still appear white. These are beautiful. The smaller ones are a slight bit darker then the bigger ones..but hardly..and they are the same tone so they match so well....plus it gives a little more interest in the necklace I created with them.

For more information on this necklace check it out here at Jonara Blu Maui

Yesterday my son and I played hookie from all of our responsibilities and took off to the beach. We went with my parents and my sister and nephews. The weather was too chilly for me to get in the water..but I'm a wimp and need it HOT to actually get in. The tourists were just fine as everyone was swimming and having a good time. I'm sure they have come from much colder climates so it was perfect for them. Our boys had a blast too..and it was good excersize for them. I really need to get to the beach more often.

At this particular beach..we call it Maui Prince Beach because that is the closest big hotel...there is not a lot of action for boogie boarding..so it's great for snorkling. However on the left hand side you can catch some fun little waves. That is the side we always sit under..it has a really big tree for shade too.

and this tree has on it a rope swing so it's double the fun for the kids when they are tired of the water.

New Unconventional Bridal Necklace

I have wanted to make some bridal jewelry using more of an off white colored pearl for some time, however I have had a problem finding that color of pearl..esp in coin pearls. Any ivory color I get in other shapes is so similar to white and with how small they are it's hard to tell a difference. Ivory is hard to find to in the all the shapes and sizes I want to work with. It's nice to have different shapes and sizes to add texture and design to a pieces. So I decided to mix some white and ivory and to put them with some tan silk cord and some golden shadow colored Swarovski crystals. It may not be for the conventional bride..but then most of my bridal jewelry isn't.

Here is the result..the little bit of tan coloring mixed it helps to take away from that conventional 'all white' look...perfect for a beach wedding...

Spring flowers for all you winter people out there

Christina from This Girl Beads suggested I post some pics of flowers blooming here on my sunny little island. We have had cold weather but not near enough to stop all the plants from blooming. My plumeria tree does go dormant every year though. And my gerber daisy's..I thought they died because of the drought..but with two weeks of rain one popped up and said "Hello!" Perhaps they go dormant too? A lot of plants bloom year 'round here.

More flowers from the yard:

Strange alien plant I have no idea what it is. Hubby brought home from a job one day a bulb that grows on top of the ground..we planted it and this is what grew. The bulb is huge now..like a football size.

This rose was so bright..in the picture it looks like I photoshopped it onto the picture..I didn't!

Geraniums amongst some heleconia stalks

Now for some spring earrings:

I love the powdered almond color of the Swarovski crystal faux pearls. They match so nicely with the champagne colored plumeria shells I use in my jewelry. They are new in my shop, just in time for wedding season. these would be so perfect for an island bride getting married on the beach.Available here

Lime green and pink are the epitomy of spring colors. These plumerias are carved from the conch shell and have lime green dyed tuquoise accompanying them. Available here

White mother of pearl plumerias with spring green freshwater coin pearls. Available here

Keshi Pearl Charm Bracelet Spotlight

This is one of my favorites..it's hard to capture in a picture the amount of actual sparkle and the way the pink keshi pearls and aurora borealis play in the light. The Swarovski crystals are a color called 'light Colorado topaz ABx2' so they are a light topaz color with a double coating of the aurora borealis effect. It makes the crystals appear more pink then they do the light tannish color of topaz..yet the topaz base makes it a very natural pink..it looks great with warm tone of the 14k gold filled metals. If you are interested this piece is available here

Wedding Season

It's that time of year again...time when all the wedding requests start coming in. My sister of Aihara Visuals Photography just got back from the huge wedding fair on Oahu at the Blaisdell Center..it was packed!

In anticipation of this season I had begun to make more wedding oriented pieces..however my wholesale account in England snagged up all I'd made so far for a bridal show they will be going to over there. And now I've been busy with getting my tax papers together and working on special orders so my bridal jewelry selection is begging for more attention. So yesterday I made these..and hopefully will have more soon:

Beach bride anklet available here

Heres an alternative if white is not for you..perhaps a little pink. This and the earrings below have not been listed on my site just yet..so you are getting a sneak preview.

'Pink Splash' earrings available here

This one is from last year and on sale for 50% off...it's perfect for that beach wedding you have been dreaming about. Available here

And here is my first custom wedding request for the year... The bride picked out earrings similar to these in my shop only she wanted the olivine Swarovski crystal replaced with a fuschia one to match her green and pink garden wedding. We made her 6 pairs of these :)
