What's been going on?

Looks like my blog got away from me again! That happens every so often...so many things to keep up on..sometimes something has got to give. I must admit though..I have fallen in love and am allowing it to steal up a lot of my time.

I mean who can resist cuties like this?

We have 5 new babies..all about 3 weeks to a month old. And we are expecting more very soon! I've also become momma to some orphaned chicks..

They were only a couple of weeks in the picture..now they are about 2 1/2 months old. Super fun and friendly though. If you sit on our deck..they will end up in your lap. Here they are greeting us in the morning the other day..I'm sure they would love nothing more then to come into the house lol!

It's cold at our new place..got down to 48 one night...but only once so far. Usually it's around 53 or 54 on a cold night. Looks like spring outside though with all the new babies around us and our Japanese peach tree in bloom:

And of course I am still creating jewelry. Though not at the same pace as I would like to. I have so many new supplies to work with, I can't wait until tax season is over so I will have more time to play. It's that time of year again to catch up on my very neglected bookkeeping for both my business and my husbands business so that I can gather all the info for the CPA. Here are some of the new Hawaiian leaf shells..just love them! Can't wait to incorporate them into more pieces ;)

Well that's a super quick update..hope that everyone is doing well. I miss reading all of your blogs and hope to get back to it soon!

Catching up and cleaning up...

I've been neglecting my blog again..I think it's because I've been a little preoccupied with Twitter. That thing is too much fun...not to mention I end up chatting w/ my bestest friend Tina at Belle Adorn on there every day. But not just that..I actually follow the news stations updates there(something I never did before..watch the news) and enjoy all sorts of tips and recommendations.

But seriously..I need to get focused here. Today I started cleaning up my studio/office..amazing how many bead supplies pile up and how many receipts and papers. Oh and the dust...ooops..it's been a while since I dusted this room..yikes! I'm not even near done but already it feels so much more inviting to work in. And I need to get this place ship shape because spring is always a busy time for me. For one it's wedding season!

Photograph by Aihara Visuals

Wedding season is a really fun time because I've usually got lots of wedding custom jewelry orders. It's doubly busy though because there is the not so fun compiling of the tax totals for both hubby's business and mine. I never learn my lesson either and I'm always behind on the bookkeeping. Waaaay behind. I'm hoping I did a little better this year though. Honestly I was doing okay the first part of the year..but when Cameron got sick I kinda lost track of it all. Some things are just more important..and that includes your kids.

Speaking of Cameron..he's definitely made progress. He's not 100% but he's definitely more his old self. He still deals w/ nausea every day and so doesn't really like to leave the house. But many of the other symptoms have gone away. Some have returned if he eats the wrong thing...like heart burn or being short of breath. It's all a trial..trying to figure out what food intollerances are causing his discomfort. He's gained back about 7 pounds from the 20 he lost. They came back quickly and he hasn't gained anymore back in over a month..but we are just happy he's not loosing.

And we got him out for an evening! He went to the big babyshower party my sister threw our brother and sister in law. Here he is w/ some friends and his cousin. He's the one in the hat.

The babyshower was a lot of fun...one of the first for our family that I was not involved in. It was nice and relaxing..but felt strange to not be involved in the planning and whatnot. My sister Kimberlee and her sis in law Raylene did a good job though! It was a surf theme...here are some of the decorations..

Here is yours truly w/ her new little nephew Hanalei..(it was a bad frizzy hair day..wish I could have borrowed his hat!)

And of course we have been working on puzzles for family time. I've missed taking pics of the last two we did..but here is the one before that.

The Quest for Yellow Pearls

My recent experience with a lovely beach bride customer reminded me of how I really need to grab unusual pearl colors when I see them available. Just get them because they are there, not because I neccesarily like them or need them..or even think I will ever need them..because you just never know what you will come across in this business.

Pearls are especially difficult at times to get in certain colors. The most common seems to be white and peacock. But once you get into other colors you never know whats available so it's best to stock up. Also it's basically a one time shot. Pearls are dyed in lots..so the next lot can turn out completely different. So get what you need and even more if you can when you find something available.

Now I never thought much about yellow pearls, I'm not a yellow person..as in it looks really bad on me so I don't think of this sweet little color much. But I love yellow sunflowers, yellow chicks, yellow houses are cool..now yellow cars - not so much..but yellow pearls..I found out that they are beautiful!

Here is the dress I needed to find yellow pearls to match this dress from David's Bridal. This is stlye number F12899 incase you see this and are intersted. (Doesn't the model look like Jan, Michaels X on The Office?)

So in my search I could not find any yellow coin pearls which was the first choice because my customer wanted to copy some earrings that I carry in my shop only in her colors. We only had a couple of choices..but I purchased both just to have them in stock after I saw how it's a very rare color. Thankfully they were a yellow that blends well with the dress..which looks like it's a bit darker yellow.

Here are the earrings..I took pictures of them with different backgrounds to show the color changes of the Aurora Borialis Swarovski Crystals. They, while being a clear crystal color, actually pick up a lot of yellow color which is a bonus because the yellow pearls look very light on their own and around darker backgrouns. You can see though, how they really truly are a true yellow when they are on the white and next to a bunch of other of the same pearls.

And here are the 6 pairs she ordered ready to go. The quality and light of this photo isn't the best as I was packing it up at night and needed to get it out in a hurry. This bride was so calm and cool about it all and she had less then a month to get this all together. I prefer to have a month to work with at least when dealing with a special order where I have to order supplies..esp from different places. But we went for it and got them out to her ASAP on a Saturday when I don't usually ship/work.

My sweet little yellow pearls are so shimmery and happy and I can't wait to figure out what else to use them in ;)

Not Afraid of Squidoo Anymore!

I've been afraid of Squidoo for some time. Only having glanced at it when I read that it was one of the sites I 'needed' to join..I was overwhelmed and so put it off for probably a year. I don't know why I was such a scaredy-cat...it's so much fun!

I know I've only scratched the surface of what you can do there..but here is a snapshot of my first 'lens'. I created one on Beach Wedding Jewelry...of course!

and here is the link:

http://www.squidoo.com/beachweddingjewelry

Please visit my lens, rate it and leave a comment at the end :D

The definition of lense from Squidoo's faq page is this:

"A lens is one person's view on a topic that matters to her. It's an easy-to-build, single web page that can point to blogs, favorite links, RSS feeds, Flickr photos, Google maps, your eBay auctions, CafePress designs, Amazon books or music, and oh so much more. That way, when someone is looking for recommended information, fast, your lens gets him started and sends him off in the right direction."

It looks like a really fun place to surf around as well..so I'm sure I will be spending some time there as I make myself comfy and try to learn.

Getting married at the beach?

Photograph by Aihara Visuals

Maui is the choice location for many couples with dreams of tying the knot in one of the most romantic settings possible. What better backdrop could you ask for than the beautiful ocean and its waves against a clear blue sky...majestic lava rock formations and soft warm sand at your feet?

Brides of many tastes come to get married on our island. Some wear nontraditional more 'island style' casual gowns while others prefer to dress to a "T"...risking it all for romance.

Photograph by Aihara Visuals

But what about jewelry?

Jonara Blu Maui offers an alternative idea in beach bridal jewelry perfect for every taste. Our island-themed jewelry is both beachy-natural and romantically-classic. It focuses on the organic appeal of freshwater pearls and shells often with hints of Swarovski crystals that sparkle amazingly in the sun. The resulting look goes perfectly with all styles of wedding gowns because it ties in with the natural serenity of the ocean as well as the beauty and romance of the occasion.

Anklets are the perfect choice for fancying up those bare wedding feet.

Our favorite style of beach wedding necklaces are those we create on silk. These are hand-knotted with a very small amount of space in between each set of beads. This creates an 'island look' that is more organic than the solid strung necklace...yet it is still very dressy and classy.

And let's not forget the beach bridesmaid...

Let us help complete your beach wedding experience with the perfect accessories. You'll walk away with something very special that can continue to be enjoyed for years to come...
