red oleander
This is who we went to visit on our walk
We still have lots of jacaranda trees in bloom..I love how they leave purple 'snow' on the ground :)

A Walk Through our Neighborhood
Yesterday my son and I took a longer walk then usual. We've been really wimpy about our walks and only have been taking them up and down our short double cultesac street. But today we got an earlier start and headed down to my friends house to drop off something she needed.
I got a new point and shoot (Sony Cybershot DSC-S750)for my anniversary present so my son took it along and got some nice snapshots
This is one of our flowering trees that line some of the neighborhood streets..the flowers are awesome
This is a giant batch of bamboo growing by a neighbors house. It sounds so awesome in the wind..I can just imagine how calming it must be at night while going to sleep
and this is another one of those flowering trees with a palm tree behind it. The sky was so blue..the colors were amazing in person. I think my little camera captured things pretty good though yeah?

Cute Little Cicada on my Hydrangeas
I believe this is a cicada..I searched google images and saw mostly some really ugly looking bugs...but did find a couple that looked like my little backyard visitor. He's so pretty with his green leaf body on my purple hydrangeas
I also stumbled across this website for Cicada recipies..it seems people eat them!!!! The really freaky looking ones!
I also found it quite funny that the first results in google for "leaf cicada" was a beaded bracelet Funny coincidence since I'm a jewelry maker lol!
That got me wondering what kind of cicada jewelry I could find out there so I took a look through Etsy and found these:
This beautiful set of butterfly and cicada brooches are from Tastes Like Vintage
If you REALLY like cicadas this one has a real one in a vial and is worn on a chain! You can find this one at Silentcheesecake Designs
This one too sports a real cicada as a pendant. Found at Honey Bee Handmade
What a trip! You learn something every day!

The different stages of a king protea flower...
I took these at the Kula Lavender Farm. I didn't get one though with it all the way open...still these are so pretty and I think it's so cute how they start out as a little ball and change their shape so much as they grow.

Big Black Flower! What is it?
Does anyone know what kind of a flower this is? It's another one of the beauties we saw at the Kula Lavender farm...it seems like it might be a type of protea..but not any I've ever seen. I'll post some protea plants tomorrow..
It's either black ...or a super deep purple. Also on some there were more flowers growing out of the middle...they are yellow and in bunches..they looked like someone just stuck them there..not like they belonged at all yet it was on a number of different ones so they were definitely growing out of the centers. There are just so many varieties of plants and flowers..creation never ceases to amaze me :)

Spring flowers for all you winter people out there
Christina from This Girl Beads suggested I post some pics of flowers blooming here on my sunny little island. We have had cold weather but not near enough to stop all the plants from blooming. My plumeria tree does go dormant every year though. And my gerber daisy's..I thought they died because of the drought..but with two weeks of rain one popped up and said "Hello!" Perhaps they go dormant too? A lot of plants bloom year 'round here.
More flowers from the yard: Strange alien plant I have no idea what it is. Hubby brought home from a job one day a bulb that grows on top of the ground..we planted it and this is what grew. The bulb is huge now..like a football size.
This rose was so bright..in the picture it looks like I photoshopped it onto the picture..I didn't!
Geraniums amongst some heleconia stalks
Now for some spring earrings: I love the powdered almond color of the Swarovski crystal faux pearls. They match so nicely with the champagne colored plumeria shells I use in my jewelry. They are new in my shop, just in time for wedding season. these would be so perfect for an island bride getting married on the beach.Available here
Lime green and pink are the epitomy of spring colors. These plumerias are carved from the conch shell and have lime green dyed tuquoise accompanying them. Available here
White mother of pearl plumerias with spring green freshwater coin pearls. Available here
